The 3 cent stamp features a full reproduction of 'Adoration of the Magi
(Kings) (L'adoration des mages)' by Konrad Witz. Set outside a
stable with shattered pieces of stucco suggests decay. Over the doorway a
statue of David playing a harp refers to the City of David (Bethlehem) and
Mary and Joseph's ancestry.
The 5 cent stamp features a stained
glass window of three angels from Saint Paul's Church in downtown
Wellington. Constructed entirely from native timbers, the wooden interior
of St Paul's is enhanced by stunning stained glass windows. The church
is a prime example of 19th century Gothic Revival architecture and was the
subject of one of New Zealand's greatest heritage battles.
The
10 cent stamp has the flowers of the Christmas (Regal) Lily (Lilium
regale). The sweet, heady, almost overpowering fragrance of the Christmas
Lily is most often associated with Christmas in New Zealand.
