| New Zealand's first circular postage stamp was issued on the 19th of
October 1988. The one dollar stamp features a Kiwi in it's natural
environment recess printed in green. The Maori motif around the border
represents the flower of the Kowhai tree - which symbolises the continuous
cycle of life. This stamp was issued in booklets of six stamps and has been subsequently reissued in sheet form in various colours: Green Kiwi - 19 October 1988 Red Kiwi - 17 April 1991 Blue Kiwi - 9 June 1993 Purple Kiwi - 18 June 1997 Purple Kiwi with overprinted selvage - 31 December 1999 Gold Kiwi - 6 March 2000 | ||||||||||||||||||||||
