The one dollar stamp features a Kiwi in it's natural environment recess printed in red. The Maori motif around the border represents the flower of the Kowhai tree - which symbolises the continuous cycle of life.

This stamp was issued in sheets of 24 stamps and has been subsequently reissued in sheet form in various colours:

Blue Kiwi - 9 June 1993
Purple Kiwi - 18 June 1997
Purple Kiwi with overprinted selvage - 31 December 1999
